The design concepts for Bologna's booth at the 2010 World Expo are revealed
This afternoon, at the opening ceremony attended by representatives from local institutions,PromoBolognaand BolognaFiere, the “Bologna@Expo Shanghai 2010” exhibition presented the 28 design concepts put forward as part of the competition to choose the best idea for Bologna’s booth at the 2010 World Expo.
The exhibition, in the Sala Atelier at the Urban Center until May 16, is curated by PromoBologna as part of the planning phase initiatives in the lead-up to Bologna’s participation in Expo 2010, in partnership with Bologna Municipal Council, Bologna Chamber of Commerce, the Province of Bologna, the Emilia-Romagna Region and BolognaFiere. “Bologna@Expo Shanghai 2010” displays the winning project as well as all the other design concepts put forward during the recent design competition organized by PromoBologna on behalf of the local Institutions. The winning project “Infotainment City” was designed and presented to the public by Antonio Mastrorocco, creative director of Consorzio Creativo Library in partnership with Loop, a company specializing in creative design and multimedia. This is the project chosen to represent Bologna at Expo 2010 (May 1- October 31, 2010).
Theselection criteria, illustrated by Giovanni Giuliani, the judging panel coordinator and BolognaFiere’s operations manager, were both technical (anonymity, timing and method of project presentation) and economic in terms of providing an estimate for the cost of the booth, set at around 200,000 Euros. The opening was attended byVirginio Merola, Urban Councillor for Bologna Municipal Council, Bruno Filetti, President of the Chamber of Commerce, Beatrice Draghetti, President of the Province, Duccio Campagnoli, Regional Councillor for Production Activities for the Emilia-Romagna region, Federico Minoli, Managing Director of BolognaFiere, Giuseppina Gualtieri, General Manager of PromoBologna, Susanna Zucchelli, President of PromoBologna, as well as a number of designers who entered the design competition. The institutions plan to take the exhibition to Shanghai before the start of Expo 2010. Progress updates on the planning phase in the lead-up to Bologna’s participation in Expo 2010 will be posted on the PromoBologna website.
Bologna was selected by the organizers of the World Expo 2010 Shanghai – entitled “Better City, Better Life” – by an international panel of judges as an example of excellence in the urban practice sector, with particular regard to four themes: culture and creativity, technological innovation, human rights and social inclusion, urban and infrastructural transformation. The Expo organizers have offered Bologna, as a model of virtuous practices, the chance to exhibit free of charge on a booth of around 340 square metres within the “Urban Best Practices Area”.
