PromoBologna, mission accomplished in Shanghai

Bologna’s local development agency took part in the 4th International Participants Meeting and visited the pavilion that will be the site of Bologna’s booth

PromoBologna, appointed by Bologna Municipal Council as case-coordinator for the city’s participation in Expo Shanghai 2010 “Better City, Better Life”, has just concluded a technical mission to the Chinese metropolis during the 4th and final International Participants Meeting (23-24 September), an event dedicated to exhibitors, with the aim of defining all the technical issues relating to their participation; the meeting was attended by 818 delegates from 231 participating countries, cities and international organizations.

Representatives from BolognaFiere also attended the meetings, as part of the recent partnership agreement with the Institutional Expo Committee and PromoBologna.

Beforeembarking on the two-day program of operational meetings, the delegates were welcomed by Yang Xiong, deputy mayor of Shanghai and deputy director of the Expo Executive Committee, Wang Jinzhen,Vice Chairman of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, as well as Jean-Pierre Lafon and Vicente Loscertales, respectively President and Secretary General of BIE (the Bureau of International Expositions).

The visit to Shanghai also provided Bologna’s delegation with an opportunity to see the progress made on building the pavilion that is to be the site of the city’s booth (400 sqm) and to define what actions are necessary to meet the deadlines and requirements of the Expo organisers. PromoBologna and BolognaFiere were joined on the guided tour by the oth designer, Antonio Mastrorocco.

Once the planning phase is complete, BolognaFiere’s representative company in Shanghai will supervise the work of setting up and structuring the services provided for the booth, which will showcase Bologna for the 6 months of the Expo. Over the next few weeks, work will begin - together with the Institutional Expo Committee - on the content and promotion of the booth in line with the themes which earned Bologna recognition as a model of virtuous practices in April 2008, as an example of “best practices” in terms of social inclusion, technological innovation, creativity and urban transformation.
