Special Day -The day of celebrations, which the Expo organizers have dedicated to promoting Bologna at the World Expo, is planned for 12th September 2010. The aim is to “relate” to China and, in general, to the hundreds of visitors to the booth, the story of the entrepreneurial excellence and success that Bologna is renowned for all over the world. In this way, visitors will be introduced to Bologna as a city centred around the University, creativity, innovation and social inclusion.

Events Programme - Music, arts and crafts, creativity and design. A variety of musical, artistic and artisan performances are planned for Bologna’s day of celebrations on 12thSeptember at the Shanghai Expo booth (in Pavillion B3-2 in the UBPA area). The artistic crafts testimonial will be Roberto Regazzi, one of the most famous lute makers in the world who studied under the great maestro Otello Bignami and former President of the European Association of Master Violin and Bow Makers. Regazzi will make a violin step-by-step in front of the audience, enhancing the value of the Bolognese lute-making school, one of the most prestigious in Italy. Massimiliano Mazzucchi from the company "Max e Giò" will represent Bolognese skill in the art of shoe-making, treating visitors to a “live” demonstration of how artisan hand-made and tailor-made footwear is produced. Bologna boasts a number of expert artisans in this field, who are much sought-after by “VIPs” all over the world. Then how could we forget Bologna’s artisan food heritage, with one of its world famous products, fresh pasta. Together with her team of pasta-makers, Beatrice Baldi, a Bolognese emigrant to Shanghai, will demonstrate how to make tortellini and tagliatelle in the proper Bolognese fashion. Beatrice Baldi organizes Italian and especially Bolognese cookery courses in China.

In honourof Bologna’s role as a Unesco Creative City of Music, the afternoon will be dedicated to concerts: first a concert by the Rossella Graziani Jazz Quartet, followed by a concert by Oscar-winning pianist Luis Bacalov and master flutist Massimo Mercelli, who will perform music composed specifically for the occasion by Oscar-winning Ennio Morricone, as well as pieces by other artists. In the afternoon, as part of the celebrations dedicated to Bologna, the large stage in the Urban Best Practices Plaza will host musical performances by the Rossella Graziani Jazz Quartet and by Luis Bacalov-Massimo Mercelli based on music written by Ennio Morricone and other artists.
